Solution

The correct option is C (i), (ii) and (iv)
  • The phloem tissue is responsible for the transport of food from leaves to different parts of the plant. It is a bidirectional movement. It is composed of sieve tubes, companion cells, phloem parenchyma and phloem fibres.
  • Xylem tissue on the other hand, is responsible for the transport of water and minerals from roots to different parts of the plant. It is a unidirectional movement. The xylem tissue comprises of vessels, tracheids, xylem parenchyma and xylem fibres.
  • Vessels along with tracheids are present only in flowering plants or angiosperms. In lower plants which possess vascular tissue, vessels are absent. The conduction of water in these plants occurs through tracheids only.
  • Both xylem and phloem parenchyma contain nucleus and are living.
