Autogamy is the transfer of pollen from anther to stigma of the same flower. Only autogamy is possible in cleistogamous flowers as these flowers are always closed and never open.

As the pollen deposited on the stigma belongs to the same flower in autogamy, there is no introduction of new characteristics.
Chasmogamous flowers open at maturity and expose anthers and stigma and hence they can undergo cross pollination too.
