The correct option is C Both statement 1 and 2
Minamata disease is a neurological syndrome caused by severe mercury poisoining. It was first discovered in the Minamata city in Kumamoto prefecture, Japan in 1956. It was caused by the release of effluents carrying methyl mercury from the Chisso corporation into the Minamata Bay. The mercury discharged into the bay contaminated all the aquatic flora and fauna. The consumption of contaminated shellfish and fish from this bay resulted in the death of many animals and humans.
