Solution

Reverse osmosis is a process by which a solvent passes through a porous membrane or semipermeable membrane, in the direction opposite to that for normal osmosis in response to a hydrostatic pressure greater than the osmotic pressure. It is the reverse of the normal osmosis process. Hence, it is a passive process.
