Cytokinin is a plant growth promoter whose main function is the induction of cell division, a delay in senescence (i.e. the process of ageing in plants), and controlling apical dominance. Apical dominance is a phenomenon in which the growth of the main central stem of the plant is more as compared to the other stems.

Some other functions of cytokinin are:
i. It helps to produce new leaves, chloroplast in leaves, lateral shoot growth and adventitious shoot formation.
ii. Division of cytoplasm during a cell cycle is called cytokinesis. Cytokinesis is a process of cell division in which the cytoplasm divides to form two daughter cells.

Gibberellins is a plant growth promoter that helps in breaking seed dormancy. Seed dormancy is the condition of seeds that are incapable of germinating even when the conditions suitable for seedling growth are supplied.
