DNA replication is the process by which a double-stranded DNA molecule is copied to produce two identical DNA molecules. Since DNA has the ability to make extra copies of itself, it is said to be a ‘self replicating’ molecule.

DNA is a double stranded structure with complementary base pairing. DNA has thymine in place of uracil, unlike RNA, which confers stability to DNA. Moreover, DNA is very less reactive and as it does not have a 2'-OH group in its nucleotides due to which it is called deoxyribonucleic acid. This makes DNA structurally and chemically stable.

The function of DNA is the transmission of genetic information. Mendelian characters are present in the chromosome as DNA. So, DNA has the ability to express itself in the form of ‘Mendelian characters’
