At higher temperatures before iron melts, it is soft and ductile. During heating, as the temperature increases iron changes its allotropic forms from alpha iron ($\alpha$), known as ferrite to beta iron ($\beta$), gamma iron ($\gamma$) or austenite, then to delta iron ($\delta$).
