Genetically modified plants are more tolerant to abiotic stresses like cold, drought, heat etc. GM plants enhance nutritional value of food. A good example is vitamin A enriched rice also known as golden rice. Genetically modified plants are not carcinogenic or cancer causing. They are specifically bred by scientists to carry favorable traits like disease resistance etc. Carsinogenesis or cancer causing ability is not a favorable trait and hence would not be a viable GM variety.
