Solution

The correct option is A Preformed antibodies need to be injected to treat the bite by a viper snake

The process of immunization or vaccination works on the principle of memory of the immune system. When an individual is administered with attenuated or weakened pathogen, their body generates an immune response by forming antibodies and thus neutralizing the toxin produced by the pathogen (antigens). During this overall process, the human immune system produces memory cells called B and T cells that recognize the pathogen on subsequent infection and disinfect the invading antigens with a higher immune response.

Preformed antibodies are injected into the body of an individual when they are infected with deadly microbes/antigens where a quick immune response is required, just like in the case of tetanus, snake bite etc. This type of immunization is called artificial passive immunization.

Smallpox is a viral disease, so infection produced in this case causes the affected cells to produce chemicals called interferons which provide signals to uninfected cells to counter-attack the viral infection.

Antibodies are glycoproteins that have carbohydrates added with the conserved amino acid residues. They belong to the superfamily of immunoglobulins. There are four chains: two light and two heavy chains.

B Cells and HLA (Human leukocyte antigens) are primarily responsible for the rejection of the graft.
