The acid-soluble pool consists of substances whose molecular weight is less than 1000 daltons. The substances commonly found in the acid-insoluble pool are called biomicromolecules such as amino acids, monosaccharides and nucleotides. It roughly represents the cytoplasmic content of the cell.
