Electrode is a metal strip used in electrochemical cell. It is an electrical conductor used to make contact with the non-metallic part of the circuit.

Half cell is made of an electrode dipped in its salt solution. These electrodes undergoes oxidation and reduction reaction. These reactions are called half cell reactions.
Based on the tendency to oxidise or reduce, they are classified as anode and cathode.

Oxidation reaction occurs at anode and reduction reaction occurs at cathode.
In electrochemical cell, electrons produced are conducted through the electrode so they can't be an insulator.
