Solution

The correct option is D 70 percent carbon dioxide is carried in dissolved state in plasma

Blood is the medium of transport for O2 and CO2. About 97 per cent of O2 is transported by RBCs in the blood. The remaining 3 per cent of O2 is carried in a dissolved state through the plasma.

About 70% of CO2 is carried in dissolved state in the plasma.
There are 3 ways in which carbon dioxide is transported in the blood. About 10% of carbon dioxide is transported in the dissolved state in the plasma.

Approximately 30% of carbon dioxide is transported bound to haemoglobin. The majority of carbon dioxide, that is, around 60%, is transported as bicarbonate. Carbon dioxide enters red blood cells in the tissue capillaries where it combines with water to form carbonic acid (H2CO3). This reaction is catalysed by the enzyme carbonic anhydrase, which is found in the red blood cells. Carbonic acid then dissociates to form bicarbonate ions (HCO3−) and hydrogen ions (H+).

In the case of oxygen, about 98% is transported as bound to haemoglobin, while only 2% gets transported in the dissolved state in blood plasma.

Thus, option D is the wrong statement here.
