MTPs are surgical procedures done under the supervision of qualified doctors, however it can be performed non-surgically too, by administering a pill named- Mifepristone (Mifeprex).

MTPs are considered safe upto 12 weeks i.e. the first trimester.

It is performed to get rid of unwanted pregnancy due to failure of contraception or rapes, or some serious health issues with the mother.
