(i) Forests protect the soil from erosion.
(ii) Plants and animals in a forest are not dependent on one another.
(iii) Forests influence the climate and water cycle.
(iv) Soil helps forests to grow and regenerate.
The answer is (ii) Plants and animals in a forest are not dependent on one another.
Forests play a very important role in protecting the soil from soil erosion. The roots of the trees hold the soil firmly preventing it from erosion. The soil helps forests to grow and regenerate by providing sufficient nutrients. Forests influence the climate and water cycle. In a forest, the plants and animals are dependent on one another for survival.
For example, the autotrophs are the primary producers, it consists of plants which prepare their own food. They are eaten by the primary consumers, they are called herbivores and these are eaten by the secondary consumers called the carnivores and finally they are eaten by the tertiary consumers called the top carnivores. If the plants were not there, the herbivores would starve and dies off and there won't be any food for the carnivores and it goes on. This shows that plants and animals in a forest are dependent on one another.
