The rate of emission of electrons is affected by the nature, temperature and surface area of the respective surface. Lower the work function (minimum energy required to emit electrons from a metal surface) of the metal, greater is the emission of electrons. Larger the surface area more is the rate of emission of electrons. An increase in temperature of the surface increases the rate of emission and vice-versa. Thus the surface area and temperature are directly proportional to the rate of emission of electrons.
