The qualifications to be a high court judge are as follows. He/She should be an Indian Citizen. He/She should have presided as a Judge for at least ten years in any court in India. Or, they should have practised as an advocate in the High Court for ten years. There used to be a third qualification - ‘distinguished Jurist’, similar to the Supreme Court. However, this condition was removed by the 44th Amendment Act of 1978.
