Solution

The correct option is C Both 1 and 2
The Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 was enacted by the Parliament with the objective prohibiting presenting, obtaining and demanding dowry from any party to the marriage and make penal provisions for the persons so offering, accepting or assisting.
The Act defines "Dowry" and recognises any act related to dowry as an offence. The National Commission for Women in 2009 proposed recommendation for amendment as to the definition of dowry and Protection officer to carry out the duties of Dowry Prohibition officers. Due to the opinions received against the proposed amendment, the Bill for the proposed amendment is currently being examined in light of deliberations made.
