Question

Which of the given pairs of fractions are equivalent fractions?

Open in App
Solution

Equivalent fractions represent the same quantity of a whole when the whole is divided into a different number of equal parts.

Of the given options, only \(\dfrac{1}{2}\) and \(\dfrac{4}{8}\) are equivalent fractions as they can be reduced or converted to get the other fraction. When we multiply the numerator and denominator of \(\dfrac{1}{2}\) by 4, we get \(\dfrac{4}{8}\).

\(\dfrac{1 \times 4}{2 \times 4}=\dfrac{4}{8}\)

Also, \(\dfrac{4 \div 4}{8 \div 4}=\dfrac{1}{2}\)
