Question

Which of the points are points of trisection of A(2,-2) and B(-7,4)?

Open in App
Solution

The points of trisection divides in the ratio (1,2) and (2,1). Applying the section formula

1st point of trisection, with ratio 1:2 = (2×7+1×21+2,2×4+1×21+2) = (4,2)

2nd point of trisection, with ratio 2:1 = (1×7+2×22+1,1×4+2×22+1) = (1,0)

Therefore the points of trisection are both (-4, 2) and (-1, 0).

Hence the points are (-4, 2) and (-1, 0).
