Fear of western culture

After the great revolt of 1857, Indian Muslims feared Western culture and looked at it with suspicion. The Muslim Community feared that Western education, culture and ideas would endanger their religion. Due to this, very few Muslims accepted the new avenue for modern education and it led to lagging of Muslims in comparison with their Hindu counterparts.
