Which of these following are known as phagocytes?
Monocytes
Neutrophils
In the blood, there are two types of white blood cells which are phagocytic in nature, i.e, they engulf and destroy the bacteria. They are neutrophils and monocytes. Neutrophils are small leukocytes that appear at the site of a wound as soon as possible and start ingesting the bacteria entering through the wound. Monocytes are large and have a kidney-shaped nucleus. They appear after around three days after infection occurs and hunt for bacteria, foreign particles, dead cellular material and protozoa and proceeds to destroy them.
