Corrosion is a process through which metals in manufactured states return to their natural oxidation states. This process is a reduction-oxidation reaction in which the metal is being oxidized by its surroundings, often the oxygen in the air.

Silver is a precious metal classified alongside platinum and gold and is the best conductor of electricity.

Silver is known to be resistant to corrosion, as it does not oxidize easily.

When silver is exposed to air, a layer of silver sulfide is formed on the surface. This is known as corrosion of silver. Silver objects tarnish slowly in the air this is due to traces of H2S in the air which reacts with Ag, forming a black Ag2S.
