Which of these sentences is incorrect, about the anatomy and function of lungs?
Left lung - 2 fissures, 3 lobes, 10 segments
The right lung has two fissures, the oblique fissure is the line you see passing from the lateral surface of the lung to its base, at an angle. The horizontal fissure, as the name suggests, is directed more horizontally, starting from the lateral surface of the lung and ending at its medial surface. These fissures divide the right lung into the upper, middle and lower lobes.
The left lung has only one oblique fissure that divides it into an upper lobe and a lower lobe. As we saw above, each lobe is supplied by lobular bronchi. Because these lobes are well separated, damage to any one lobe can happen without disturbing the functioning of the other. These lobes are further divided into segments, by a connective tissue. There are 10 segments in the right lung and 8 in the left. These, like the lobes, function separately, and damage to one segment will not affect the functioning of the others.
