Which of this is secondary productivity?
The rate of formation of new biomass by heterotrophic organisms or consumers in an ecosystem is called as secondary productivity. Although the organic matter accumulated by a carnivore while feeding on a herbivore can be considered tertiary productivity, the productivity of all consumers are generally categorized as secondary productivity. Caterpillar is a heterotroph and the rate of formation of organic matter or biomass by the caterpillar on consumption of producers is secondary productivity. Similarly the organic matter accumulated by the cheetah while eating the antelope is also secondary productivity.
