Solution

  1. The amount of heat required to raise the temperature of a unit mass of a substance through 1 °C or 1 K is called specific heat capacity (c).
  2. The substances which have a high value of specific heat capacity will absorb or release the heat very slowly.
  3. Among all the substances, water has the highest specific heat capacity. Its value is 1 Calg-1 °C-1.
  4. So, between the land and water, the land cools at a faster rate because its value of specific heat capacity is less than that of water.
