Solution

The correct option is C Nitrobacter
There are two steps in nitrification process.
The bacteria that convert ammonia to nitrites include Nitrosomonas, Nitrosospira and the bacteria that convert nitrites to nitrates include Nitrobacter, Nitrospina. Bacteria like Rhizobium converts atmospheric nitrogen into ammonia in symbiotic association with leguminous plants. Azotobacter converts atmospheric nitrogen into ammonia. It is a free nitrogen fixing bacteria.
Thus, the correct answer is (B) 'Nitrobacter.'
