Solvay process cannot be used to prepare potassium carbonate because potassium bicarbonate is fairly soluble in water and does not precipitate out OR because potassium bicarbonate is easily soluble to be precipitated when the ammonium bicarbonate is added to a saturated solution of potassium chloride. Sodium carbonate can be prepared by Solvay process whereas potassium carbonate cannot be prepared by this process.
Deliquescent substances keep absorbing water until they dissolve into liquid solutions. Soluble salts are examples of deliquescent substances. Examples are ammonium chloride, sodium nitrate, calcium chloride, and potassium oxide.
NaHCO3 is used as a mild disinfectant.
