Mucor is a member of Phycomycetes (the conjugation fungi) and belong to the sub-class of zygomycetes in which motile cells, like the zoospores, are absent. Asexual reproduction takes place by the formation of non-motile spores called sporangiospores. Sexual reproduction takes place by the formation of non-motile zygospores.
Endosperm is a tissue in which the nutrient substances necessary for the development of the embryo are deposited. In gymnosperms the endosperm is formed in the ovule during meiosis of the megaspore mother cell; it consequently becomes the female gametophyte, with a haploid set of chromosomes. Endosperm is a haploid as its formation is a pre-fertilization event.
The members of Phaeophyceae or brown algae are generally present in marine habitats. They possess chlorophyll a, chlorophyll c, carotenoids and xanthophyll. They vary in colour depending upon the amount of the xanthophyll pigment, fucoxanthin present in them.
Archegonium is the female reproductive organ in Bryophytes (mosses), Pteridophytes (ferns) and Gymnosperms ( e.g., cycads and conifers). It is a flask-shaped structure generally and contains egg.
