The prostate gland is one of the male accessory glands that secrete a milky, slightly acidic fluid (pH = 6.5). The prostate gland contributes nearly about 20 – 25% volume of seminal plasma along with the secretion of Bulbourethral glands (<1%) and seminal vesicles (65 – 75%).

Prostate gland secretion contains citric acid which is used by sperm in low concentration for ATP production required for motility.

Seminalplasmin in prostatic fluid is one of the antimicrobial substances in semen.
