Question

Question 25
Which one of the following does not increase while moving down the group of the periodic table?

(a) Atomic radius
(b) Metallic character
(c) Valency
(d) Number of shells in an element

Open in App
Solution

Option (c) is correct.
Valency of an element is a measure of its combining capacity (number of valence electrons lost, gain or shared) when it forms chemical compounds or molecules with other atoms. Down a group, the total number of electrons increases but the valence electrons remains the same. Hence valency remains same.
