Roy National Award fund was established under the aegis of Medical Council of India to cherish the memory of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy who was not only the First Indian President of Medical Council of India but the guiding force and inspiring spirit for the Medical Council throughout his life. To commemorate the memory of Dr. B.C. Roy, whose birthday and by rare coincidence, the date of demise also fall on the same day i.e. on 1 st of July, the Government of India declared that 1 st of July of every year be known as “Doctors’ Day”.
