Xerophthalmia is a vitamin A (retinol) deficiency disorder which is caused by stoppage of lacrimal activity. Cornea and eye lids become dry and ulcerated. It leads to swelling of dry eye lids and opacity of cornea. Xerophthalmia, if untreated, leads to blindness. Scurvy is vitamin C deficiency disease, Beri beri is vitamin B1 deficiency disease and Pellagra is caused due to deficiency of niacin.
