The loss of water in the form of vapour from the aerial parts of the plant is called transpiration. Depending upon the structure involved in transpiration, it can be classified into four types. They are stomatal transpiration, cuticular transpiration, lenticular transpiration, and bark transpiration.
Transpiration that occurs from the tiny apertures called stomata found on the surface of the leaves is called stomatal transpiration.
Transpiration through aerating pores mainly present in the cork is called lenticular transpiration.
When the loss of water occurs from the surfaces of epidermal cells (cuticle) of leaves and herbaceous stems, it is termed as cuticular transpiration.
