  • The Monazite sands of Kerala are rich in Thorium.
  • It has been suggested as a replacement for uranium as nuclear fuel in nuclear reactors, and several thorium reactors have been built.
  • Uranium and Thorium, which are available in Jharkhand and the Aravalli ranges of Rajasthan, are used for generating atomic or nuclear power.

Coal

  • In India coal was mainly formed over 2 main geological ages. Some were formed about 55 million years ago are the tertiary deposits, some were formed during the Gondwana period, around 200 million years ago.
  • West Bengal – Jharkhand (Damodar Valley) is the major source of Gondwana coal in India, these are metallurgical coal.

Oil

  • Oil is used as raw material in many manufacturing industries, lubricants for machinery, used for lighting and heat.
