Question

Question 10
Which one of the following properties is not generally exhibited by ionic compounds?
(a) Solubility in water
(b) Electrical conductivity in solid state
(c) High melting and boiling points
(d) Electrical conductivity in molten state

Open in App
Solution

Option (b) is correct.
Ionic compounds are good conductors of electricity and mostly soluble in water. Due to strong ionic attractions, they have high melting and boiling points.
And it is because of these strong ionic attractions they are not free to move and hence do not conduct electricity in their solid state.
