Which one of the following statements is correct in explaining the feedback control mechanisms regulating the reproductive cycles in human female?

Solution
The correct option is A Whereas a slow rise of estrogen inhibits the secretion of FSH and LH, high concentration of estrogen have the opposite effect and stimulates the secretion of FSH and LH from the anterior pituitary.
FSH and LH are secreted to start the development of the follicle. As follicle grows, estrogen secretion increases. The estrogen has a negative feedback on FSH, which causes it to stop being secreted.
As follicle reaches it's maximum growth at around 14th day of menstrual cycle, estrogen secretion reaches it's peak. This increased amount of estrogen causes a positive feedback to occur on the LH cells in the pituitary. LH secretion reaches maximum ( known as LH surge ) and ovulation occurs.
So, the correct option is ' 'Whereas a slow rise of estrogen inhibits the secretion of FSH, high concentration of estrogen have the opposite effect and stimulates the secretion of LH from the anterior pituitary'.
