Open in App
Solution

Hemoglobin:

  • Hemoglobin is a protein molecule found in the red blood cells to help move oxygen molecules to the different parts of the body.

Binding of Oxygen with Hemoglobin:

  • The structure of the hemoglobin molecule contains a group called the heme group.
  • The iron atom present in the heme group can attach to the oxygen molecule creating the oxyhemoglobin molecule.

Therefore, the heme group of the hemoglobin protein allows the protein to interact with the oxygen molecule.
