Glass allows virtually all the visible and ultraviolet solar radiation striking their surface to pass through, but absorb most of the infra-red radiation. So, the visible sunlight comes through and is directly absorbed by the pot and the air inside, but the thermal energy re-radiated by these does not pass directly outward through the glazing. To escape, it must heat the glazing, so that it radiates the energy outward. So, the warmth of the sun rays is trapped by the glass which leads to the greenhouse effect.
