The period from 1793 to 1794 is known as reign of terror.This period is called as the reign of terror due to the policy of severe control and punishment followed by Robespierre.
His severe policies and punishments were.
  • Anyone who did not agree with his method -were arrested ,imprisoned,and then tried by a revolutionary tribunal and if the court find them guilty they were guillotined.
  • His government issued laws placing a maximum ceiling on wages and prices ..Meat and bread were also rationed.
  • Peasants were forced to sell their grains at prices fixed by the government.
  • Churches were shut down and their buildings converted into Barracks or office.
Finally,the reign of terror become intolerable .The Paris mob turned against cruel Robespierre and his followers.consequently ,they were put to death in 1794 AD ,with their execution the reign of terror ended an France and people heaved the sigh of relief.
