Cell cycle includes a non-dividing phase, interphase and a dividing phase, mitotic phase (M phase).
Interphase has a long duration and during this phase the cell prepares to divide by undergoing cell growth and DNA replication. Interphase is further divided into G1 , S and G2 phases. The cell cycle begins from the G1 phase and as it follows the mitotic phase of the previous cell division cycle, it is also called the post-mitotic phase. G2 phase is also called pre-mitotic phase as the cell enters into division phase after G2 phase.
