Which pigment is responsible for the colour of skin?

Melanin is the pigment present in the skin which produces a brown/black or red/yellow polymer produced by melanosomes in melanocyte cells. Melanin content of skin is the main determining factor of skin and hair color, hair is considered a form of skin with regards to pigmentation. Skin color depends largely by the amount of melanin pigment produced of a group of naturally occurring dark pigments responsible for the color of skin.
