Cytokinin was discovered by Miller when he was working on tobacco pith culture. He added Herring fish sperms DNA to the culture medium & observed that the-tobacco pith callus could grow for longer period. He isolated an active substance from it and named it as kinetin. The term cytokinin was given by Letham. Cytokinins are hormones that produce anti-aging effects on some plant parts. They provide a younger, healthier look in plants. Florists commonly use cytokinins to make cut flowers look fresh as they are able to slow down the aging process, providing prettier flowers for longer.
