Open in App
Solution

    • Plants possess supporting tissues that give them definite shape, strength, rigidity and resistance against external forces such as wind and water to which they are continuously subjected.
    • Sclerenchyma tissue present in plants provides the main structural support to a plant.
    • Sclerenchyma is dead, long, narrow cells with thick and lignified cell walls having a few or numerous pits. They provide mechanical support and are economically important. These are commonly found in the fruit walls of nuts, the husk of the coconut, jute etc.
