Solution
Plants possess supporting tissues that give them definite shape, strength, rigidity and resistance against external forces such as wind and water to which they are continuously subjected.
Sclerenchyma tissue present in plants provides the main structural support to a plant.
Sclerenchyma is dead, long, narrow cells with thick and lignified cell walls having a few or numerous pits. They provide mechanical support and are economically important. These are commonly found in the fruit walls of nuts, the husk of the coconut, jute etc.
