Solution

Parthenocarpy:

  1. Parthenocarpy refers to artificially or naturally inducing plants to produce fruits without the fertilization of ovules.
  2. In this, the fruit is similar to fertilized normal fruit but they are seedless.
  3. They do not require insects for pollination as fruit formed is without fertilization.
  4. Various examples which are naturally occurring parthenocarpy include grape, orange, banana, pineapple, and grapefruits.
  5. Parthenocarpy causes fruits to be seedless and fruitless, there are many fruits that are of no use if produced by induced parthenocarpy.
  6. Pomegranate is regarded as berries where that has several seeds whose epicarp is an edible part.
  7. As the seeds of pomegranate are a viable and commercially required part of fruit hence parthenocarpy is undesirable in pomegranate.
