Which pressure is responsible for guttation?

Open in App
Solution

Guttation:

  1. Guttation refers to the loss of water in the form of liquid droplets from the tip of leaves and other uninjured parts.
  2. Guttation takes place through special pores that are hydathodes.
  3. Hydathodes are present on the margins and tips of the leaves.
  4. Guttation usually occurs at night when there is very less transpiration.
  5. Root pressure is responsible for guttation
  6. Root pressure is created by a well-irrigated plant, this pressure forces water to exude via hydathode in the form of guttation drops.
  7. Water rises up and finally oozes out of the margin as guttation drops.
