Which process will be affected when coralloid roots are removed from a cycas plant? Give reasons.

Open in App
Solution

There are coralloid roots in the Cycas plant. These roots contain the cyanobacteria called as Anabaena. These are blue-green algae which are responsible for the fixation of the atmospheric nitrogen. The algae help the plants by providing nitrogen in the forms which can be used by the plant. If the coralloid roots are removed from the Cycas plant, the association with the algae will be lost. This will result in the deficiency of nitrogen which will affect the growth of the plant.
