Which produces sound of a higher pitch? a drum or a whistle? why?
The pitch of a sound wave is directly proportional to its frequency. Higher the frequency of the sound wave, the higher will be the pitch.
Drums will produce a sound of lower frequency because the membrane of the drum will vibrate at a low frequency; therefore, the pitch will also be low.
A whistle will produce the sound of higher frequency because the air in the whistle will vibrate at a higher frequency; therefore, the pitch will also be high.
