Light reaction
The light reaction is the photochemical reaction in which light energy is converted to chemical energy in the presence of sunlight.
Light energy is absorbed by the photosynthetic pigments and this results in the excitation of electrons from the reaction center of the photosystem.
This initiates an electron transport system, eventually resulting in the synthesis of ATP and NADPH.
Products formed during light reaction
ATP is formed by the proton gradient developing across the thylakoid membrane.
NADPH is synthesized by the reduction of NADP by the enzyme NADP reductase.
