Sexually transmitted diseases are often caused by an infection transmitted sexually, that is caused by a range of microorganisms such as fungus, bacteria, viruses, protozoans, and several others.

Protozoan causing STD:

  1. Giardiasis is often transmitted because of the protozoan Giardia lamblia, which spreads by either sexual or asexual methods.
  2. The disease is transmitted by two types of giardia: motile trophozoites and cysts, which are stable.
  3. Giardia lamblia is transmitted mostly by the fecal-oral channel, which can be caused by consumption of contaminated food or through sexual transmission if may be active with an infected individual.
