The ventricles consist of four hollow, fluid-filled spaces inside the brain. A lateral ventricle lies inside each hemisphere of the cerebrum. Each lateral ventricle is connected to the third ventricle by an interventricular foramen. The diencephalon surrounds the third ventricle.
